The refrigerator resides in a cleanroom 330 feet underground in Fermilab’s MINOS underground experimental area. QSC researchers take advantage of this shielded, low-radioactivity environment to test and operate quantum sensors while avoiding background generated by cosmic rays and other environmental noise.
